Physicals Q & A

What are physicals?

Physicals are medical exams that include evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment for kids and adults. For example, you might need a physical to go to school, attend camp, participate in sports, or work at certain jobs.

It’s a good idea to get a physical every year to rule out or detect medical problems before they become serious.

What happens during physicals?

When you arrive at Oasis Healthcare Service, Inc., for a physical, friendly staff members often complete the following:

Vital signs check

The Oasis Healthcare Service team greets you and assesses your weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and other vital signs.

Medical history review

Your specialist also discusses your medical history, including medications you take, family history of disease, past diagnoses, and symptoms you have.

Medical examination

During a medical examination, your provider assesses your overall health and wellness. He evaluates your eyes, ears, throat, breathing, abdomen, reflexes and checks for signs of illness, injury, and disease. Troy can complete a pelvic exam and Pap test in women to screen for indications of cervical cancer or a prostate exam in men.

Diagnostic testing

In addition to cervical and prostate cancer screening, your provider may recommend you undergo nasal or throat swabs, other tissue swabs or biopsies, and heart function testing, as well as urine tests, blood tests, asthma and allergy tests, X-rays, or MRIs as needed. The Oasis Healthcare Service team can also evaluate your hearing and vision.

What happens after my physical?

After a physical exam, if you’re healthy, you can continue with your usual lifestyle. Your provider signs off on required paperwork needed for school, sports, or work physicals.

In some cases, they may recommend treatment to help you stay, cure an illness, treat an injury, or properly manage a chronic disease.

Your provider might suggest medical weight loss, nutrition changes, other lifestyle changes, vaccinations, over-the-counter or prescription medications, or injections. Injury care, further diagnostic testing, and specialist referrals are other treatment options you may benefit from.

If you or a loved one needs a physical, call the Oasis Healthcare Service, Inc. office or book an appointment online today.
