Wellness Visit Q & A

What are wellness visits?

Wellness exams are general checkups that consist of disease screening, medical evaluations, preventive services, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses, injuries, and chronic (ongoing) diseases. Attending yearly wellness checkups is the best way to maintain exceptional health and wellness.

What happens during wellness visits?

When you arrive at Oasis Healthcare Service, Inc., for a wellness visit, you can expect the following:

Vital signs check

During vital signs checks, your provider assesses your weight, body mass index (BMI), pulse, blood pressure, temperature, and other vital signs. In children, they can evaluate height, weight, growth patterns, and development.

Medical history review

The team reviews your medical history, including past diagnoses, past and current medications, symptoms, and personal and family history of disease.

Physical examination

Oasis Healthcare Service, Inc., offers comprehensive physical exams. Their team evaluates your eyes, ears, throat, breathing, reflexes, abdomen, and more.

For women, the team conducts pelvic exams to evaluate reproductive organs, breast exams to screen for breast cancer, and Pap tests to screen for signs of cervical cancer; they also offer prostate exams for men.

Diagnostic testing

If you’re at risk of or experience new or unusual symptoms of an illness or disease, your provider may recommend you undergo diagnostic testing.

Diagnostic tests may include blood tests, urine tests, nasal or throat swabs, heart function tests, asthma or allergy testing, X-rays, and other imaging procedures. Your specialist might also complete vision or hearing screening.

Treatment

If your primary care specialist detects an illness, injury, or disease during a wellness visit, they may recommend treatment. Treatment may include lifestyle changes, dietary supplements, medications, other types of diagnostic testing, or surgical procedures. They refer you to a specialist when needed.
